My cat is throwing up daily but seems fine?

by admin on June 7, 2010

My cat Lola is 2 years old. She eats dry food (healthy stuff) which I leave out all day using an automatic feeder. For the last 3 weeks or so, she’s been throwing up (typically in the morning) on a daily basis. Her vomit is just food and a little bile. Sometimes it’s hardly anything, just a teeny pile the size of a walnut and sometimes it’s her whole meal. No hairballs. She has the same level of energy as always, isn’t loosing weight and otherwise seems normal. I’ve changed her food 3 times since this has started but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Any ideas?

I would call your vet to see what type of food they might suggest after telling them your situation. They may also want to have you bring her in to get her checked out real quick. If she seems okay though and like her normal self, it’s probably nothing too serious. I would still call the vet to get an opinion. Just in case! Good luck though!

My 6 year old cat does the same thing, and seems fine. The vet said it’s possibly a natural thing, that cats in the wild throw up part of their food in case their starving later. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, but ask your vet, on her next check up.

My cat does it, I just tell everyone she is worried about her wieght and dealing with an eating disorder lol

I had a cat a few years ago that ended up havong a worm, but he had quit eating and it was frothy vomit.

As long as she eats, it could just be hairballs??

Its natural from a female because she is going through "heat". Don’t really know how to explain it but its like having periods. My female cat used to do it when she was 2-10 years old. Now I think she’s too old thats why I haven’t seen her do it for a while.

Every year I bring her to the vet., they say she’s in perfect health. So its okay as long as she not acting weird and unhappy.

Maybe get rid of the timer and just feed her yourself once in the morning and once in the afternoon {or evening if you’re back late}. The food will stay fresher if it’s not exposed to air all day and even the best timers are not air-tight. If it’s in a Tupperware or other air-tight plastic container until you feed her, it’s less likely to make her ill than if it’s sitting around all day.

It’s not healthy for a cat to ‘throw up’ every day and if this continues you need to take her to the vet.

It is not normal for a cat to throw up this often. What are you feeding her? Dry stuff isn’t necessarily healthy; it often contains grains and other potential allergens.
