What type of cat bowls are better?(plastic, ceramic,or stainless steel)?

by admin on April 7, 2010

Hi,

What type of bowls are best for cats out of plastic, ceramic, or stainless steel? I have been told plastic causes feline acne, and stainless steel probably does not makes the water taste good, so I believe ceramic would be the best. Is that true?

Thanks, and have a nice safe 4th of July!

I personally think ceramic is best.

Steel can make things taste a bit odd which I can say from drinking liquids from a steel coffee mug. The longer the liquid sits, the more likely it will taste funny. Plastic harbors bacteria.

I use a stainless steel water bottle all the time. I think the water tastes fine out of it.

I would go with stainless steel. Ceramic can chip, which can accumulate bacteria, leading to kitty acne. Of course, plastic is also out.

Stainless steel, the type that is wider at the bottom than at the top.
It’s easy to keep clean, won’t tip over, and unbreakable.

You are correct, some cats are sensitive to plastic bowls. They can develop as skin condition called feline acne. I would think that stainless steel would be fine, though it might not keep the water as cold as long as a thick ceramic bowl might. But so long as you clean what ever bowl you choose a couple times a week it should be fine. I clean my cats water bowl twice a week, even though I change the water daily.

You should use either ceramic or stainless steel. Plastic bowls hold too much bacteria and they tend to contribute to feline acne.

I use a ceramic food bowl and a steel water bowl. Never had a problem.

Uh, have never heard of cats getting acne lol.
I have ceramic bowls for my cats, used to have plastic. I just prefer the look of the ceramic bowls, and I can put them in the dishwasher.
