I’m going on vacation and I can’t take her with me. I have a feeder and a water dispenser that could last 2 weeks I am just not sure if it would be a good idea to leave her alone for that long.

Cats are a lot more independent than most other pets, but two weeks is a long time; especially for the litter box. Maybe have a trusted friend or family member look in on your cat from time-to-time while you are gone and keep the litter box cleaned out for you.
She might be terrified. If you have a trustworthy friend/family member, ask them if they could come over every now and then and watch her.
have someone to come over and check on her
Two weeks is too ong to leave a cat alone. You need to find someone to come and take care of her or board her with a clinic. After about 4 or 5 days food and water will disappear or become inedible. The litterbox will also become too dirty for a cat.
Can u get someone to go to your place and visit it once a day?
When cats are alone, they become depressed and usually starve themselves.
This is NOT a good idea AT ALL!
if you can get a friend to go and keep it company an hour a day, that will probably keep it alive.
I don’t think so. I would at least have someone come over to your place and check on her.
That is longer than I would leave any animal alone in my house.
i would have your neibour to come over and check on her every once in a little while.
get a friend or neighbor to check in on her, it should be okay, unless your neighbor is some sort of cat fetishist. if the food dispenser says it lasts 2 weeks then it will, but the water might go bad.
I don’t think so. The water/food dispenser might run out or she might eat it all at once. She could get sick, and lonely. Ask a relative or friend to house sit, or check your local ad’s for people who will take care of kitty while you are away.
Don’t leave her alone.
No, it’s a bad idea. Anything can happen. She might run out of food and needs fresh water. It’s the best to have somebody who checks daily if your cat is ok.
I can’t imagine that you’re even thinking of the idea of leaving your cat alone at home for 2 weeks.
take her to a kennel, vet with boarding or pet hotel
i think that is too long
i didn’t even know they had feeders for cats for that amount of time
That is a long time to leave her alone. is it possible to have someone check on her and clean her litter box? the food and water dispenser is a good idea , but the litter box is going to become full in that long and most cats….. when its gets too full she will not use it, she will start finding other places in your home to "go" Im sure you dont want your home smelling that bad from an unkept litter box for 2 weeks.
Its best just to have someone check on her , to make sure she is ok. if not every day…at least every other day.
You’re horrible, and you don’t deserve to have a cat. NO, she won’t be okay for that long.
If you have an animal shelter close to home that could take her in/board her for those 2 weeks, it would be ALOT better.
But you cant leave a cat alone for 2 weeks, either that or let someone pass by every 1 or 2 days to check on her and clean her litterbox.
That’s definitely too long, even with a food dispenser the cat may get depressed and gorge herself, and be out of food within the week.
Unless you have a 10 gallon water dispenser, that won’t last either.
The litter box is also a major concern, it will probably fill up in a few days.
Either get someone to watch her, or board her at your friendly neighborhood kennel.
No, she will not be "OK" for two weeks. Would you leave a child alone for two weeks with just food and water? And, just imagine how dirty her litter will be. Just think of all the things that could happen and no one there to help her. Try locating a friend or neighbor who would be willing to come in and check on her. Or contact your vet who might have boarding facilities or can recommend a good facility.
There are also people for hire who specialize in cat sitting and will come to your home at least daily and care for your cat. This is often the best option. I have my cat sitter come in twice daily and call me everyday so I know all is well.
Good luck!
it should be fine. but have someone come over and check on her every once in a while. and, as gross as this sounds, leave a toilet seat up, if they run out of water, they will drink that, and u might want to put out some extra food. and again, DO have someone come and check up on her!
No
At least leave it to else
l would have someone come over what if she tipped the water over ???? Or both were tipped over ?
Ask a friend to come over and check on her. Most people will do that because they like animals.
Set alot of food out, and a spare litter box. make shure to have spare water. enough that you know it will last. lock the doors so the kitty can’t get out. Could you take the kitty with you? If you can that would be a good idear.
you don’t want the cat drinking toilet water, its full of bacteria. I left my cat alone for a week once, and we had a maid that checked on her. She completely trashed our apartment while we were gone. She knocked over her food and water dishes, the maid would clean it up but she just trashed everything again. I think she was stressed out and thought we had abandoned her. That was with a maid coming in and checking on her. You definitely need to have someone check on you kitty. Something could happen to the dispensers, she may knock them over, leaking water all over your floor, and leaving her without water the rest of your trip. Its best if you could have someone come over and keep her company for a little bit every day, also they could check your mail so it doesn’t look like you’re gone. Its possible she could be perfectly fine after 2 weeks, but do you really want to risk it?
When I was a kid, my family would occasionally go away for a weekend, leaving the food and water dishes stocked up. When we got back, the cat would always be freaked out. And that was just a weekend.
Nowadays, when I go away for a weekend, and I have two cats to keep each other company, I ask a friend to stop by at least once a day to check up on them and feed them. When we get home from a weekend away, the cats give us this, "Oh, you again" attitude, and after a few minutes are back to their usual affectionate selves. But they are not freaked out.
Two weeks is a long time. If you have absolutely no one you can ask to check in on your cat, please board her at a reputable kennel (my vet’s office charges $10 per day).
Another advantage of having a friend stop by your home, is that the friend can do things like leave a car parked in the driveway and move it around, and turn on different lights, and collect the mail and newspapers, so that the house looks less empty, and therefore less tempting to theives. It can also be handy in case of some emergency in the house, like storm damage, or a water main bursting, because your friend can at the very least call you to let you know so you can come home and take care of it, if there is nothing the friend can do about it – which is a whole lot better than coming home to 2 weeks worth of damage.
Hi Sweetie. Two weeks is a bit long for your kitty to be left alone. Although, they are very independent in nature, they do thrive on company and I think your kitty would miss you terribly and get depressed. She might stop eating after a few days and the smelly and full litter tray would be a major issue for her after a couple of days and might force her to start pooping in other parts of your home.
Is there a member of family, neighbour or friend that you trust that could pop by for a few minutes a day to keep her food & water fresh, clean her litter box and also give her some cuddles and play time?
This would be much better for your kitty and would save you a lot of worry while you’re away wondering if she’s still ok and that way you could enjoy your vacation a lot more.
I hope you manage to find someone and have a lovely time on your break.
It’s far too long to leave a cat on its own, you need to get someone to come over and check on her. If she’s in the house I think you risk her getting ill and if she’s outside she will run away if you leave her too long.
If you have left her for long periods before and know that she will tolerate being alone, it might be possible. But what if something happened? The guilt on top of your loss would be very hard to handle.
We leave our cats alone when we go on vacation. We leave enough food and water for them, but in addition we have our mother in law comes and checks on them half through the trip. Gives them fresh water, and cleans their litter box.
I have left my cats home for about one week and they were fine.
If you decide to leave you cat at home for 2 weeks make sure you give them lots of food, water, and a clean litter box.
Also make sure someone checks on the every so often.
If you do this your cat should be fine.
This is not a good idea. Anything can happen to her.
What happens if the feeder or water dispenser malfunctions
Do you want to come back to a dead cat? Please if you can’t afford to board her get a friend or relative or even a neighbour to check everyone day on her. Make sure it is someone who is RELIABLE. Offer to do the same for them
or do some other chore like mow the lawn or cook a dinner
for them in exchange. No only is it cruel and dangerous but that cat is used to company. How would you like to be left on your own in an empty house with nothing to do and no one to play with?
I would never recommend leaving a cat alone that long. If something happened to her, no one would know. If you don’t want to board her, find a reliable pet sitter, or even a friend or family member who could check on her once a day.
